30 Ways to Deep Clean Your Home


Overwhelmed by spring cleaning? Try these tried and true tricks to clean all the unexpected places in your home. 
  1. When your toaster gets all sticky and gunky, use a few drops of water, cream of tartar, and a sponge to get your stainless steel appliances looking brand new again.

  3. Keep your baseboards clean & dust free by using a microfiber mitt. 

  4. If you clean your candles with pantyhose it will remove all of the excess dust.

  5.  Unscrew your light bulbs and wipe them off with a microfiber cloth.

  6. Get stains out of your microfiber couch using isopropyl alcohol, a white sponge, some elbow grease, and a white bristle brush *Make sure you use white tools so that the color dyes don’t transfer to your fabric.

  7. For cleaning medicine cabinets, you would want to first remove everything from the cabinets and wipe them out, top to bottom.  If the cabinets have glass shelves, run them through the dishwasher to make sure they are fully clean.

  8. Clean your washing machine using white vinegar (or bleach), baking soda, a toothbrush and microfiber cloth. Fill the washer using the highest load size, hottest water setting, and longest wash. As the washer tub fills, add a quart of white vinegar (or bleach) and a cup of baking soda. Soak and scrub removable parts like the bleach and fabric softener wells using the toothbrush and microfiber cloth. After an hour, close the lid and allow the cycle to complete.

  11. When cleaning your refrigerator, start at the top; take everything out, cleaning each shelf as you go. If a shelf is removable, take it out and clean it with warm soapy water. Most drawers are removable and should also be washed this way. *Don't forget the small shelves inside the door and when wiping down the outside of the fridge, paying special attention to the handles.

  12. Showers/tubs: If you have a shower caddy, take it out and wash it. It may even need to be replaced. Clean the showerhead with an old toothbrush and bathroom cleaner, like Soft Scrub. You may need some heavy-duty cleaners for soap scum build-up or mildew stains. The toothbrush works well on tub jets and other small, hard-to-reach places.

  13. Rub faucets with waxed paper to prevent water stains and fingerprints.

  14. Snip off a piece of a Magic Eraser (Mr. Clean) and drop it in the toilet. If you let it float over night, it will remove any toilet ring. No scrubbing!

  15. To deep clean your blinds, mix equal parts vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Slip an old sock on your hand and wipe away all the grimy dirt away.

  16. Use WD-40 to remove scuffs marks on the floors.

  17. Dust off your fan blades with a pillowcase.
